Jewel Winkler

It’s been eventful to say the least over the last couple of days… Besides doing what I love. I also do what I have to do like most normal functioning people - I go to my part time job. Of which I seriously do not get paid enough for. #gruntwork ….Ugh.

I take a lot of needless crap from people on a regular basis because let’s just say my job is a “stage” and I must please the audience. Sometimes this is fun, mildly rewarding even. Other times it’s hell. People are bullies. With sticks so far up their asses you genuinely feel sorry for them, the majority of the time. It takes the utmost dignity in a person to serve and do it well and literally bite your tongue.

This leads me to express the most profound difference in supporting myself in my own way, being my own boss… Nothing makes me happier than making someone else happy with something beautiful I made.

To artists of the world. To “in the mean time” jobs… We done good…

Danika’s flying away from me!

I do not let people burn me out. In fact. They make me shine brighter the more they try to dim out the light. (Taken with instagram)

I have soul. And I have fire.

I’m Jewel. An artist – local to Calgary, Alberta – Canada.
So hey, what’s shakin’?
Anyhow…I want to share my artistry in whatever form that might take in days to come, days that have been and those days I desire. As an artist, I feel like I am never the same as I was yesterday. So why not document that. Why not share that? I have a different pair of eyes; maybe they are a rarity – maybe just a warm, golden – at times, honeyed green. But my vision is mine and I am making the choice to express every bit of it.
As I am in the midst of giving my persona – let’s call it a little revamping.  Recently some sort of hurricane came over me and I’ve been working on thick, heavy and colorful canvases. I’ve been a little consumed. I love working with palette knives, acrylic paint and other mixed media which is evident in my art. It would sound incredibly cliché to say inspired? But yes, I cannot help the love that floods into my life and out of my hands.
Here is a little taste of my work that I don’t know if I’m fully ready to give away yet – but if you stick around. I can always guarantee a finished, beautiful piece of work, with an amazing and sometimes surprising story behind it.
